An other question in the last few days about steering and brakes on the IH with hydraulic steering and brakes 706 through 86 series tractors. They should all have steering and brakes without the engine ruuning. If anyone has a tractor that does not have steering and brakes you should check it out and fix it. To test the steering just turn the steering wheel with out the engine running the front wheels should turn it will be harder but should steer, if not could be the sump check bad it is at the lower in side rear of the MCV valve and will have to remove the MCV to replace. As for the brakes the first test is without the engine running, push one brake peddle until it stops then push the other peddle if the first peddle moves farther that firs brake should work, do the same test on the other peddle if it move when you start to push the second peddle that brake should work as well. If that test works as stated then stop the tractor on a save light slop, shut the engine off and see if the brakes work. If these test don't work then most likly the self adjusting screws in side the brakes are not adjusting the brakes. They will need cleaning and the screws should be free to turn with no oil or lube and the stop clip must lit the screw turn free. If this is good them could have bad master cylinder.Should be able to slid rear wheels with out engine running. I post this for safety reasons, do the tests now and then to see if they work, fixed may of these brakes never had one that would not slide the wheels.
