Tim: I'm not sure why, probably to allow a refined fuel/air mix. Personally I always put the same venturi back in. I only switched to the 27's when the old double's were broke. The customers would much rather have an original stock. I've heard both ways as far as how the engine runs. Some swear by it some don't. I will, however say that the 460/560 carbs I had a horrible time keeping in stock due to 6 out of 10 having cracks in the bowl along the side. My guess is too much engine vibration. Make sure to check yours!
