There are many things I enjoy and value, perhaps chief among them preserving things that are being lost or restoring things that are partly there already, be it tractors, tools, buildings, hisotry, old ways, species of plants or animals etc. I find though that as life carries me into middle age, that as Nebraska Cowman said, "Life is about people." Some of course it is best to stay clear of but there are many that are well worth knowing or helping and I have found that while they may not neccessarily be the majority, they are not hard to find and never far away. They often turn up when I least expect them. But unless I check myself it is all too easy to be too busy or to overlook them.

One thing I try not to lose sight of is something my dad told me years ago: "Value each day you have been given. Do not wish the time away, particularily while you have children. Once the time is gone, there is no getting it back." I have found it to be good advice and frequently check my thoughts and actions against it.

This week we will be celebrating our 21'st wedding anniversary though it hardly seems possible. She is both a saint and a princess with whom I just am not able to picture my life without. It scares me sometimes to think of it. All the more reason to value the day and the time we have been given. It has not always been easy by any means, nor has it been without problems but as I look back and realize how often I was at fault and did not know it and come to realize the many flaws I have and have had, I am both frequently ashamed and all the more appreciative of how much she has sacrificed, over looked and forgiven. Through it all she has always simply loved me and I have not had reason to doubt it. She deserves everything I am able to do or give her even though love does not consist of such things.

Our priest concluded a sermon one time with the remark that: "At the end of our lives only three things will matter. Who we have loved, who has loved us and our service to God." I have found that to be a good perspective.
