That wagon almost surely had sides at one time. They were very common around here. They were pulled behind cornpickers to recieve the ear corn. The hoist was used to slowly dump the ear corn into the elevator drag to fill corn cribs. I'd say that it is mid 50's to early 60's vintage. Probably a 4 ton gear, judging by the wheels. I still have the sides and end gates for two of these wagons in a shed. The wagons are long gone. After ear corn days were over, a lot of people took the sides off and pulled these behind small square balers to stack hay on for the trip to the barn. The floor may have been replaced at one time. That's why you don't see the holes to attach the sides to it.
