Any time an electrical terminal gets hot and glows red there is a very poor electrical connection. The heat is caused by electrical resistance, the resistance is caused by rust, corrosion, or just plain being loose. Remove the connection and clean it good, might even need to use some emery cloth to make things nice and bright. The bad part here is that things may have become hot enough that permanent damage has been done, in which case you will need to replace your solenoid and possibly install a new terminal on the end of the cable, or replace the cable.
