Dave, forget about the block between the axles and "pushing the axle out of the housing. You are going to have to have the housing off anyway to replace both bearings. When you have the entire axle assembly off, just hold it up vertical and drop it lightly on a firm surface like a railroad tie. That will knock the bearing out. Turn it over and knock the other one out. DONT beat on the inner axle end where the female threads are. That will cause damage and you will probably have to use a tap to get the bolt started. Guess how I know this? When ready to install, get a good gauge and measure where the bull gear is. Adjust your shim to get that bull gear dead center as you can. Align the splines going in by turning the axle tiny amounts. You can't see it , have to "feel" it Person with arm inside cavity can also turn bull gear a fraction and listen/feel for fit. It's not hard, just finicky, and you will feel great when you feel it all snap into place. Gordo
