Jims right. The bull gear carries oil up to the top gear and thus the bearings. There are oil holes for oil to drain back down and to the bearings I think. I run a wire thru these holes to make sure they are open. You should use a new gasket when you put that lower pan back on and don't over tighten those bolts as this is like an oil pan on an engine. I use 90W gear lube. Holds 1 1/2 quarts if I remember right. There should be gaskets for the bearing caps also if I remember right. Your dealer should have an exploded view of this. Dave.
