When I drop the pan?

Well, life is difficult. Eight months of cleaning and painting and then started thinking about starting the M. Motor is not frozen but something is wrong. With the hand crank I can get the crank shaft to move some but it will not turn completely over. Took the starter off and can get the flywheel to move some but not much. Almost like somelthling is binding the flywheel. When I take the pan off can I then see what might be binding? Can not think of what it could be but if you guys have some ideas please let me know.
