jpl, Congrats on getting the old girl going !!! Heres how to Motor Test a Generator.

First, dead ground the Gens Field post to the case,,,,,,then with the frame grounded (have belt removed) apply hot battery voltage to the Gens Armature post, and she ought to spin which says the Armature n Brushes are pretty much okay,,,,,,,,,then when you remove the Fields ground she ought to run faster, which says the Field windings are likely okay. Usually if she passes BOTH those tests, the Generator should charge but no guarantees lol
