I think the symptoms indicate that you have low compression on one or more cylinders. It could be an injector or two that have a bad pattern, But if a shot of ether makes it run kinda right, the heat generated by the ether can make the cylinder/s run for several cycles. The white smoke is atomized diesel fuel being exhausted unburnt. If the tractor gets warmed up on gas to the point that the water is warm, and it still wont fire on all of'em I'd bet it needs to have a ring job (if not more) Good luck JimN
