The only truth in your message is that driving has to be reduced. The Sept 1 thing is about a tenth of a drop in the bucket (or gas tank). The demand has to be reduced to coincide with the supply. OPEC doesn't control the price of oil, they are running almost at capacity anyway. The prices are determined by the traders on the futures markets, etc, which are related loosely to the actual supply and demand. High gasoline prices are here to stay, hopefully not long term at $3-$4 gallon. When the refineries get back on line, days, weeks, or months from now, the prices will stabilize and should go down, hopefully to the $2.50 range, barring another cat 5 hurricane. If that happens, bicycle sales are going up. Higher prices should allow the extraction of the hard to get to oil, such as that in Canada. They will also allow for more alternate energy sources, hopefully before we all buy bicycles.
