Farmall 300 kit (Basket case)

I was putting together my 300 after replacing the rollers, pin, springs,pressure plate, etc. in the TA and replacing the clutch and pressure plate for the transmission. I put some long bolts in the bell housing to join the halfs together. I measured the gap top and bottom on both sides to be sure it was going together straight. After the splines started to come together, I turned the PTO shaft to make sure they meshed. Everthing seemed fine at even a 1/8" gap but when I tightened them together there seemed to be a bind. Anyone have an idea what might have happened. I am a recent convert from the green and yellow religion and don't have much experience with these red machines.
