Difference between 49 50 M

I am just starting to learn about tractors and have a working 49 M and non working 50 M. The breaks on the two tractors differ. The 49 M has a much larger Break cover than the 50 M.

Can anyone explain or expand on this. One is a 180000 serial number and the other is a 222000 serial number if that helps. Thank you in advance.
