One brush (as you know) is connected to the "A" terminal.

The brush directly opposite that brush is in a grounded brushholder, which is NOT insulated from the endbell, and the brush lead simply connects to the brushholder, and nothing else connects there.

The odd brush at an angle to the other two is the "third brush", and connects the a wire from the field coils. (The other wire comming out of the field coils is connected to the "F" terminal.)
