The tractor serial number would be on the inside of the left-side seat support bracket, stamped on a plate which is riveted to the bracket. The tractor serial number won't be anywhere else on the tractor. On earlier tractors, the engine serial number matched the tractor serial number. This would apply to serial numbers 501 through 201000, according to the IH Tractor Data Book by Guy Fay. If your tractor is in this group, and has the original block, you can get the number from the engine. The engine serial number is stamped on a raised boss on the right-hand side of the block, below #1 sparkplug and kind of behind the magneto. It should have a FAB prefix.
