They probably started making forged bolts in 1954 for the 1955 production run, but you probably figured that was the case anyway, right? From what I've learned from a machinist friend, I would dare guess the bolts were turned from hex stock on a lathe, either by hand or in an automated process. Newer bolts are forged in a press using round stock, I believe.
