I don't know the cut off term. But wheels and rims can be mounted in a variety of ways (except for the tread pointing backwards on the top of the tire) they are all operational and set for specific purposes, including being narrow enough to load on a trailer. Set them the way you think looks best and works for your applications. Row crop width, loader work, barn doors, stability on hills and wheel track mark location are all reasons for placement. The only tactic not recommended by me is to set them in as far as possible. this causes roll over to be so easy that operation can be dangerous in fifth, or on modest hills. Cutting off the axle stubs to make the whole tractor width narrower probably won't gain points on this forum.
