Had the same kind of problems with a tank a couple of years ago, had a crackin a seam. I used a product called PC7. It is a product some what like JB weld only three times as good. It comes as a two part compound but unlike JB weld, this is in a paste form. Mix equal parts together and apply with putty knife or something simular. It sets up hardas a rock. Heat doesn't bother it, gasoline, oil, or cold. It's a quick fix and it works. It can be bought at automotive parts stores or hard- ware stores like ace. This stuff can be drilled and tapped for threads even. And it doesn't crack with age give it a try,it's a cheap fix. Just make sure the surface is clean when you apply it. Good luck, let me know if you try it and it works for ya.
