Sorry for the late post. I Don't get to read the board every day. Your problem is most likely the oil slinger gear. It is towards the rear of the lower shaft in the transmission. It is fairly large diameter and quite thin and is made of die cast and is very easy to spot as it looks different than the other gears. It is ment to provide oil to the bearings when the tractor is running but not moving, like when using the belt pully. I would replace the transmission oil (90W) first to see if that quiets it down. The fill hole is by the shifting lever and the drain hole is at the bottom rear on the right. These are flat pipe plugs with square holes that no wrench will fit. I made a tool to remove them by grinding a square end on a big allen bolt. If you have a belt pulley there is a drain in the bottom of that housing. It is a small pipe plug. There is a fill on the top also I believe. It takes a small amount, 1/2 cup maybe. The tranny takes 5 quarts I think and the level check is on the left side of the transmission behind the brake shaft if I remember right. Fill the transmission to this level and do not overfill or your oil seals will most likely leak. I flush my gear boxs out when I change fluid. For example you could pour some "cheap" motor oil in the fill hole and let it drain out the bottom. See what it looks like and repeat if it looks really bad. If you need to replace that oil slinger gear you'll have to repost as that is quite involved. Good Luck. Dave.
