Farmall 300 wheel ballast

We have a farmall 300 as well as an M that were originally from my grandfather's farm. When he retired in the 70's all of the equipment was auctioned off except for the 300 and a few implements which have been used ever since for cutting wood, plowing gardens, mowing, etc... Anyways, one of the rear tires is starting to go flat. The question is would we be asking for trouble if we replaced both rear tubes and just left out the ballast, only using air? It rarely is used for plowing and the heaviest work it does is pulling logs or a wagon in the woods.
