YOu have it correct. Use it change it and the filter every 5o hrs till (only untill) it stays clean then change as service specifications require.
There is only good to be found with detergent oil.
An extremely sludged up engine from unchanged non-det. oil can have problems, but the problems were in the engine already waiting to happen one way or the other. The time to clean up the arteries in grandma is now before the embolism.
