I think the spring is supposed to be flat. I got out the manual and it says nothing about the fingers pointing in or out only that they should fit between the cast lugs.Unless you are talking about the three fingers the screws go through then they should have the flat side towards the pulley. Then the three screws should be tightened using a gauge that sets on the rim of the pulley and touches the fingers next to the button in the middle. It says the gauge is included in the clutch disc repair kit, Without the gauge I guess you just have to guess how far to tighten them down, The locking nuts should have 6 to 7 lbs. torque.
