460 Diesel Block Heater

Anyone ever mount a block heater on a 460? I have the kind of heater that will mount in-line in a heater hose. There are two heater hoses on the left side of the 460 engine. I am thinking I may be able to mount the heater in-line in one of the heater hoses. Not sure which is the return or which direction the coolant flows. Seems like the outer one is hotter than the inner one, so maybe I should install it in the inner one. Also, I am not exactly sure what purpose these hoses serve for the tractor. Maybe this is not the best way to approach this.
