Jeg, I agree with ElToro. If its good and its charged up, a 12 volt battery should read 12.6 volts just setting, so I wonder how good your voltmeter and/or battery is?? Then depending on it and the genny and how long shes been ran, at wide open it ought to rise to at least 13 volts or more if shes charging?? If charging any lights should glow noticeably brighter from slow idle to wide open, do yours???

Is it staying up n starting the tractor or you need to give her a charge now n then???

Make sure the belts good n tight and that the genny has a good ground n check the battery voltage and light situatuion setting to wide open n let us know... A bad battery may not be capable of accepting a charge you know !! Insure theres electrolyte above all the plates and no cells exhibit a gray or milky color and/or have a shop load test it.

If you need a procedure for testing to see if its a genny or a Voltage Regulator or Cutout Relay problem, post back n let me know. What type system (VR or cutout relay) n tractor is it. Some of the Fords have Class B internal grounded field gennys and they are a lil different animal to diagnose. If its a dern Ford you better get SoundGuy to help ya, I'm more knowledgeable about the Class A Delco systems.
