Looking into buying a Cub and have a question or two. Other than checking for the normal water in oil type stuff, is there any particular defect/problem area that I should pay attention to? The tractor runs very well, looks good and has a good set of implements in good condition. The only things noticeable are a little play in the steering, wants to run a few minutes then shut off like it is out of gas but restarts with a minimal amount of hesitation (probably dirty carb and/or fuel system) and I notice as it is running after it has warmed up smoke comes out around the oil filler/dipstick area. I don't expect a flawless tractor, but one that offers good potential without a major investment on repairs. I am comfortable working on it mechanically wise, but if one of the things I mentioned is a tell-tale sign of something to bite me I would like to know. Of course like any other purchase of used equipment it is still a crap-shoot.
