Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I should have been more clear on the type of noise it is making. It is not clunking or grinding but just has a constant loud whine. I already looked at the transmission gears several months ago when I had the pto assembly out for some repairs and all the gears looked good. I put heavier gear oil in at the time to see if it would make a difference and it made no difference at all. I had to pull out my parts manual today to see what shaft bearings you guys were talking about and that is a real possibility. The problem now is I seem to be caught in the snowball effect. I wanted to replace the clutch so I might as well fix the gear noise problem. I want to fix the gear noise so now I might as well fix that leaking axle seal. The joy of owning an antique tractor...
