John: Don't get so upset, seize the oportunity, one of that best farm cash crops going today is relieving those overpaid folks of their excess money. Don't be bashful, he likes to be able to say he paid more for the duly, horse and straw than anyone else. I was at a Wholesale Produce outlet in Detroit one morning this week. A retail buyer was trying to impress the wholesaler about his new sports car, said he paid $45,000. The wholesaler responded," You mean to tell us you paid $45,000. for that little xxxxx model that can be bought anyday for $30,000. You paid $15,000. more than necessary then have the gaul to come in here and crap all over us on $0.05 on a bag of potatoes." I once had some vegetables for sale at roadside, had an old sarcastic gentleman visiting. Lady pulls up in a new Crown Vic, "Asks how much are your topped beets?" I had them done up in 10# bags as most folks pickling them wanted that amount, thus I quoted her $0.35 per #. She said, "How much if I buy a large amount?" I asked what she considered a large amount. She responded, "10#". Oh I said, " Kind of thought maybe you might want a ton, everyone buys 10#." She chewed a bit more over my price, finally my old sarcastic visitor butted in, " Lady were you that damn hard when you bought the Crown Vic." With that she plunked down $7., grabed two bags of beets and assualted us with Crown Vic exhaust and a few gravel stones to boot.

It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
