Well, I am kinda in the same delima, but I quite the full time job to farm, pulling a real good income as a grower but really dont make squat off the land. It's rented out. Buying some beef in the spring and need to decide weather to run my ground for the feed and hay, or buy it. Corn and hay are rather cheap right now and I would be better off buying some say, but that will change some day I am sure. I have an 46 H and a 70 544 Hydro, I could do it all with them 2 tractor easil;y and so could you. I am however gonna buy a gear horse to save the hydro. I can get everything I need to farm for probably under $3500. I can apply chicken poop accuraratly and probably get by no fert cost. Should I do or not?? I guess we both just need to decide either yes or no and then follow through. DO NOT invest alot of money in equipment untill you decide it is what you want to be doing after a few years. If it is depleting your savings annually stop. If you make a profit which may only have to $100 and your happy go on and enjoy. I myself will probably just grow corn, rye, and hay. Pick the corn to avoid drying cost and feed my happy cows in the pasture. Guess what all this babble means is like Allen you have to go for your dreams , or you will always wonder IF, but do it smart , have a plan, and do it safe.
