Might also be the cam drive gear nut has worked loose or the cam gear hub has busted. Not uncommon on account of loading from the live hydraulic pump which drives off the cam gear. Does the rap change or go away when you put a load on the hydraulics of when the RPM"s are run up? If it does you"ve found the problem. Incidentally an improperly adjusted pushrod makes a click sound once every other revolution of the crank. And the engine can run for years like this. A cam gear on the other hand makes more of a heavy clunk every 1/2 crank revolution. It may run a for many hours with a failing cam gear, but when the cam hub fails completely the engine will simply quit.
