I'm not so sure it would be a "great system." It might be functional, maybe even adequate, but great? Power steering pumps are really low pressure, really low volume. Your 3pt lift will be SLOOOOW and won't have much lifting capacity. A bigger diameter cylinder will help lifting capacity, but it will also require a larger volume of fluid, and that will make the system even SLOOOOOOOOOWER. Why doesn't this "Farmall 400" have live hydraulics? Live hydraulics were standard equipment, weren't they? I've seen and heard of 400s without TAs, but not without live hydraulics. If the pump was simply removed, then the BEST solution would be to purchase a new/rebuilt pump and install it. you'll never be happy with a wimpy little power steering pump cobbed on the side of the engine.
