Keith, I have a TC-44B Super C Part Catalog, May 1960 issue which shows these springs as reference no. 17 and part no. 355795R2 which are called clutch release bearing return springs. They appear to hook between the clutch release bearing retainer and part of the torque tube casting where the clutch shaft runs through the guide sleeve at the back end. They are shown quite clearly in my Super C Operator's Manual on page 55. Hope this helps, Hal.
