Okay Randy, you're wrong. M, Super M, Super MTA, 400, 450, W9, Super W9, 600, and 650 diesel models, as well as the diesel bulldozers of the time, all started on gasoline to warm up the combustion chamber, then switched over to diesel. Engine technology of the time, at least the stuff IH was using, didn't allow for high enough compression for a direct-start diesel. The first direct-start diesel to appear in an IH tractor was the Continental diesel used in the 350 Diesel, I believe.
