If you're taking pictures you know are just to use on the computer you can set your digital camera at a lower resolution. I keep mine set at 0.3megapixels. That gives you a photo with as much resolution as is visible on a computer monitor and the right size. Any more megapixels just makes the image bigger, not sharper.
The monitor will show all the pixels you give it to see, but unlike a printer it can't put them closer together and show a sharper image. It shows the same sharpness, but spread out into too big to see the whole thing on the screen.
