Guy Fay's data book says the 1st gas engine was Chassis serial FBK 18144, which would have been the same day as the number you quoted, perhaps meaning that all gas engines the X1 suffix. I agree with you that it is probably a gas engine with optional shutters. But 80 is a little low for a gas engine that originally had compression of 120 although it certainly not impossible. The engine likely needs work.
