My M parts catalog shows the early seat used on tractors FBK 501 thru 9286. Guy Fays Tractor Data Book show that 1940 Farmall M production started with s/n 7240. That would indicate they were used for the first few months of 1940. If it's the correct seat for your tractor (and probably is) you could verify by checking some casting codes. The code letter for 1940 is a "J" and 1939 it was an "I". Hope this helps. Hal
