A 2166 is a rotary combine and hence will "condition" the straw a little more than a cylinder-style machine, even without going through a chopper. CaseIH rotary machines are designed for the crop mat to make 4-7 revolutions around the rotor where in a cylinder machine the mat only makes 1/2 a turn before being spit out. If you pull the chopper that just leaves the beater assembly which should help you keep some length to the straw, enough so the baler can pick it up easier. You can't pull the belt off the chopper/beater as it is an integral part of the threshing system and will really mess you up, the beater is what ejects the straw from the rotor area back to the rear of the combine. Make sure you turn off the spreader if you have one on it though, that will help immensely. To sum it up, yes you can do it, but I would run a few hundred feet and then evaluate your combine performance and the windrow before doing a whole field.
