We baled thousands and thousands of straw bales ehind our 2166 and got along great with it. There are several steps that ned to be taken to get good quality straw out of a Axial Flow but it can be done. First thing to do is take off the spreaders of course. Then you'll want to completely remove the stationary knives of the chopper. Next you will need to lower the chopper pan to the lowest position. Then move the chopper drive belt to the low speed position (small driver, big driven pulley). Now your chopper will be properly set for straw, and without spreaders, you will drop into a nice windrow. We really never changed any rotor or concave settings for baling straw. Just set it to do the best job of seperating and if your chopper is set right, the straw should be in good shape. The only time we had any trouble at all with straw quality was in a drought year where the straw was poor anyway. It ground it up pretty fine, but so did the conventional combines in the area, so ?????? Good luck with your baling.... Bill
