The 504 was one of the few IH tractors that didn't have sleeves. When a cylinder was scored the block had to bored oversize. The block may not have been heavy enough to install sleeves. The US Government used a lot the 504's for mowing firing ranges. It took a lot of power to drive those big rotary mowers and that was at full throttle. They switched to big Fords when they had problems with the 504's and sold them at auction. You would be better off to find a good used crankshaft for the 340 and put in new stepped head pistons and sleeves. Here's a website for tractor salvage yards.
