I put an electronic ignition on my JD430U several years ago and then one on my SMTA last spring. Would never go back to points in either. If your 12 volt conversion used a resister ahead of the 6 volt coil, you will need to get a 12 volt coil, preferably the hot one sold by the electronic ignition supplier. If you want to convert back later there is no problem, nice thing about the electronic ignition is that you really don't notice any difference from points by looking at the outside of the distributor.
