Do you have an ammeter or a voltmeter in the circuit? If not then you can either check the voltage with a voltmeter at the battery. It should be 11.5-12.5 with the engine off, and 13.5-14.5 with the motor running. If the voltage doesn’t go up with the engine running, then you have some problems. The ammeter should show a charge immediately after startup, and then settle back to 0, even with lights on or any other accessories on. If otherwise, then again you have some problems. If it isn’t charging you can take it to a shop and get it fixed or if you have a multi-meter, and can get your hands on an auto repair manual, there is some good basic info in them to help diagnose and fix a Delco alternator. I rebuild them all the time, I can do one in about half an hour, (bearings, brushes, test diodes and regulator) and they really aren’t that hard to work on. You can also post here if you need more info.
