You may be using the wrong terminal on your key starter switch. There should only be voltage to your starter when the switch is turn to the start position. When you release the key start, no voltage should be fed to the starter solenoid that has s on the small terminal. You can check this with a volt meter. Remove the wire from the switch that goes to your starter. Check for voltage on that terminal with switch in the off position. No voltage should be present. Turn key to start and you should show voltage until you release the key. No voltage should be present then. You should have a terminal on the switch that feeds voltage to your ignition.
