M three point hitch

Last summer I bought a hitch a seen while traveling down state. The guy said it wae off an M so I gave him $80 he was asking it came with the hydraulic cylinder. Went to the cabin up north where I leave the M and found out it did not fit it look's like it would put the distance from where the hitch bolts on to where the top link bracket goes acrost is not off set enough to clear it look's like about 4''. Is it maybe for an H and not an M thanks Dennis in MI
