I had that happen to me in a truck with a DT466. Was just shiffting out of low range, when the engine took off, went all the way up to about 3,000 RPM, then slowly came down to an idle like nothing ever happened. I don"t know what stopped it, but everything under the hood was covered in oil. I have never been so scared in my life. Just a feeling of helplessness, made worse by the fact that it was not not my truck. ANYWAY, I agree with the others, get a new turbo and be done with it.
