Paul: I will try to help you out here. I have a couple of 340U's and have done this too many times. I think from your comments you are thinking correctly about the process. -The front of the spring does attach to the crescent shaped piece close to the bottom of the throttle rod. -The bracket you refer does attach to the 3/4 bolt on the steering housing and it does point directly to the back of the tractor. -The rear of the spring attaches to this bracket. -It is very difficult to stretch the spring from the rear and secure it to the crescent shaped piece on the throttle. This requires patience and maybe some choice words due to the tightness of the working area. Hope this is a bit clearer than mud. Email me if you like. There are other ways to do this but it requires some parts dissembly. Good luck-DC
