The gas leaking from the carb is kind of a normal thing, they will all do that if the engine doesn't fire soon after you begin cranking it. Also, an engine that just suddenly quits usually doesn't have carb problems, you have already found that you have a good flow of gas to the carb, so I don't think the carb is the problem. I honestly think the problem has got to be with the ignition. A coil in good condition should give a nice fat and blue spark, not a thin yellow colored spark. Also, check that all of the wiring is good and connections tight. Don't know, these things can be very frustrating at times.
