450 Diesel Problems.....Please Help

I got the thing to start on gas. (Thanks to all who helped on that) I'll explain what was the problem there later. What the problem now is this: I followed the book exactly and got all the air purged out and was happy to see the pressure gauge was just about pegged to the right. The only problem was when I opened the bleeders on the injectors I got no fuel, no air, no nothin. I pulled the plunger out of the pump and the spool valve in the bottom was stuck in the compressed position. I dis-assembled the plunger and the valve had crud on it. I cleaned it and re-assembled it. Here is the problem...After I put it back together and re-bled the system, I started her on gas, and opened the bleeders on the injectors. Fuel and air, I was so excited. Then the over-flow tube on the pump started pushing Fuel out the bottom...Meaning that something was leaking fuel into the injector pump crank case. I took the lid off the pump and put all the rest back together and re-started the engine. The fuel is leaking out of the housing on the plunger where the high pressure tube bolts in. It is not leaking at the tube, but from the "window" (if you will) that is on the side of the plunger housing. I looked at the diagram again and I don't understand what ever kept the fuel from squeezing out there. Does anyone know what is going on here....I'm sorry this turned into a book. As for the gas problem that is now fixed. Who ever it was that said to check the "Flippers" in the intake was right. Even though they where shutting ok....there was a small opening where crud had built up and would not let them close all the way. Once I cleared the crud out (meaning they would close all the way) then the engine would only draw air through the carb thus pulling fuel with it. THANKS TO ALL THAT HELPED WITH THAT PROBLEM !!!
