Andrew, When you say you wanna know if your coil is working, do you really mean its specifically the COIL only that youre interested in, or is that youre not getting any spark at say the plugs and wanna know if its the coil or maybe several different things that might be the cause?? I ask cuz the coil is NOT the first thing I would suspect as the cause of non firing. Theres a few tests you can easily perform that will tell if a coil is definitely bad, however, unless and until its used for a sufficient period to warm up, the simple tests you could perform dont guarantee its totally good. Still, if it passes the test Hal laid out for you below, it PLUS several other ignition components (including points n condensor) are likely okay, so thats a darn good start. John T
