Allan: Your right, no provission for any factory step on the right side of a 656. Couple of threaded holes in the torque tube, wherby one could fabricate a decent looking step. I never did as I installed a cab with steps on both sides. However due to proximity of gear shift lever, throttle lever and hydraulic levers, plus two brake pedals versus one clutch pedal. I'll venture to guess that right cab door got less than 1% of total use. I don't think my being left handed made the difference, as my hired hands were right handed and they did the same. This was also true of the larger chassis 06, 56 and 66 series tractors even though they did have a bit more room, the left door was still the side of choice. Just look at tractors around the country, paint on grab handles is still in better shape on right than on left.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
