One 10ga. wire comes from the starter switch (battery side, not starter side). that wire hooks to the amp meter, and that should be the only wire on that side of the amp meter. (use good terminal ends) The other side of the amp meter has a wire (12ga) that feeds the igniton switch (if coil/points), and another wire (10ga.) going to the Bat terminal on the regulator (or the big terminal on the alternator if so equipped), and another wire (12 ga.)going to the light switch. If, when hooked up, the amp meter reads + when not running with the lights on, (hook up a light temporarily) then move all wires to opposite terminals on the amp meter. It will not hurt the gauge to be backwards. Leave enough wire to switch them if needed. JimN ---P.S. Bob M's wiring diagrams are great.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
