Without hearing the knock it’s really hard to say. I overhauled a Chevy 350 once that had been freshly bored to 0.020” over. It had a knock in it from startup that got worse as the engine warmed up. Took a few days of head scratching before I finally pulled one head and found what still embarrasses me to this day. The kit for the 0.020” pistons had one piston in it stamped “STD” on the top. It had made it past the machine shop man that put the piston on the rod, and past me cleaning it, installing the rings, and finally installing it in the engine. Yup, embarrassed, but learned from the experience. I know that you don’t have an overbore kit, but…if you haven’t checked them for size, it’s a place to look.
